WHAT'S AFRICAN LIFE FILM SERIES?
If you were born South of the Sahara and now find yourself living in America, where can you turn on American television to find contemporary images about your experiences in a new land?
The African immigrant living in America has to flick his remote control several times before finding stories (if at all!) that depict people who look like him, and who are dealing with the same issues he himself is battling.
For that matter, if you are neither an African nor an immigrant, but are curious to see stories of people from other cultures adapting to an unfamiliar way of life where can you turn on currently programmed stations to find them?
AFRICAN LIFE FILM series was created to feature fictionalized accounts of the day-to-day and real-life experiences of African immigrants living in New York. The films attempt to correct the all too frequent negative depiction of Africans found in today's media with images which more truthfully portray them as valuable additions to their new-found communities.
The first feature, AFRICAN DILEMMA, was completed August 2005, and released April 2006. The second feature, AFRICAN YOUTH, was completed June 2006 and the third, MANCHESTER BOUND, September 2006. The last two features will be released August 15th 2007.
The ultimate goal of the company is to release between three to six feature-length films a year. The films are shot on digital video and released as DVDs directly to the public.
