August 6th 2006 - TO DIARY OR NOT TO DIARY

It took a while for the notion of a diary to sink in. Yet, I've thought of it since the website was created back in 2002. I finally gave in to the idea recently, I'll chuck it up to fate and see what happens. My name is Vigil Chime, and I am the producer of AFRICAN LIFE and all of the series which come under it. That would be the now defunct TV series (more on this later) and the current Film series, the latter which probably brought you here today.

My purpose here is to put a voice behind this endeavor, and keep you abreast of all that's happening behind the scenes to put these films together. And I'll admit, this is but another forum for the selfish writer in me. i will make no promises you'll hold me against tomorrow, but I'll try my best to keep these entries daily. I will try to be as open as modesty and decency and privacy, of course, permit. If you tire of my ramblings, kindly let me know to cease and desist and this page will disappear - unless of course more people prefer it on than off.

We are all, of course, very busy people. Asking you to return here daily would be like asking you to pay your bills daily, so I won't. Come back when you can, and since this is the internet afterall, you can always catch up on what you missed. This being the first entry, I should make your time here worthwhile, right. Okay.

I live and work out of Harlem, USA. For those of you who are not familiar with this part of the world, living in Harlem means I live on the island of Manhattan, which is the New York that precedes NY. I love the "City" so much that I am physically ill on the rare occasion I step out of it to visit whoever. I kid you not. Literal palpitations of the heart, cold sweat, woozy stomach (no not hunger, more like the feeling you get right before you hurl). I don't know why this is the case, but I accept it as I accept the heat and humidity that come with August.

This August we embark on MANCHESTER BOUND, a story about a 17-year old Ghanaian kid raised in England. The kid is MIKE and he arrives to New York City after the tragic death of his father/coach in a car accident a couple of months prior. Mike arrives to live with his mother and her new family, made up of her boyfriend of 12 years SAMUEL and their 12 year old daughter named KEISHA.

This household is anything but tranquil and no sooner than Mike arrives than he desires to return back to England to pursue his dream of playing soccer for Manchester United, of which the film's title is referring. As a producer, it is not conceivable to give away all facets of the story here. The idea here is to whet your appetite enough so that you would run off to get the DVD when the film is released. I am merely preparing you for the topic these entries would no doubt deal with as I am consumed with production. I will end this entry here today. I thank you for your time - VIGIL
