Who move as one towards his hut To find the reason behind the noise Although, as for that, the answer is clear The wails having turned to the Song of the Dying
Ifegi-oku's mother remains by her hut Suffering the worm eating her heart Seeing Ifegi-oku at Wife Number Four's Wife Number Three beckons to her child
Ifegi-oku moves towards her mother Then suddenly remembers her father's absolute She steps back emphatically and re-enters the hut An action which infuriates her mother further
Sons were popping up to the right and to the left Curse Number Four and her son number four! With a scowl, Number Three disappears within Wishing the song to be Song of the Dead
Obi breaks through the bramble and thicket In hot pursuit of the errant mid-wife Who flails blindly through the thick forest Running for her life which is now at stake
Try as he might, Obi gains very little In making headway towards the assailant Ye Gods, he thinks, perhaps she is winged! She flies as if buoyed by The Gods themselves!
Obi sucks down air and redoubles his pace Cursing himself for being so blind Lower your guard and strangers invade The joy of a son was that intoxicating
A son, perhaps, whom he has already lost? The thought renewed, he howls with pain As the woman races towards the forest's center She'd be lost for sure for there the trees are denser
Obi cuts a right near an embankment Runs on grounds higher than her head Almost atop her, he hurls himself off Landing on the woman, they crash to the side
The woman rises shakily, fighting confusion Then pushes Obi back rather then surrender He lands her a blow, breaking her nose Which delivers her unconscious to the engulfing dark
